Protest, march planned in Atascadero March 28
North County groups join nationwide day of action
– A rally, march, and community gathering are scheduled for March 28 in Atascadero as part of a coordinated nationwide day of action known as No Kings 3.
The North San Luis Obispo County event will run from 10 a.m. to early afternoon with multiple activities. A protest and car rally will begin at 10 a.m. at El Camino Real and Morro Road in Atascadero. A march through downtown Atascadero is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by a community gathering at noon in Sunken Gardens at 6005 Lewis Ave.
Organizers said the nationwide mobilization is expected to draw 11 million participants across all 50 states, with more than 10,000 participants anticipated across San Luis Obispo County events in locations including San Luis Obispo, North County, South County, and Cambria.
Organizers said the event will include decorated cars, costumes, games for children, and food trucks.
“We’re building on the incredible community participation we saw in No Kings 1,” said Cindy Lewis of Indivisible North SLO County. “March 28 events are decentralized around the county – downtown SLO, North County, South County, and Cambria. Together, there’s room for more people to attend, reflecting the growth in this movement.”
“Community events build neighbor-to-neighbor connection and draw more people into the movement,” said Linda M. Baker, a representative for the North County event. “The Atascadero event is family-friendly and fun while making a powerful statement about what we value as a community.”
The North County event is sponsored by Indivisible North SLO County, Indivisible Rapid Response Team SLO, Avila Beach Indivisible, Atascadero Democratic Club, and Paso Robles Democratic Club.
Organizers said the flagship event will take place in Minneapolis-St. Paul, where the Twin Cities Coalition stated, “Caring for our neighbors is a way of life.” Organizers said that approach reflects the neighbor-to-neighbor organizing taking place at events nationwide.
