Printmaking, abstract art showcased at Art Center Morro Bay

Fishin’ Wishin’ by Tricia Reichert.
Both exhibitions will be on display from June 29 to Aug. 7
– Art Center Morro Bay is set to showcase two exhibitions, Rock, Paper, Print, and Abstraction, highlighting the diverse works of talented artists. Rock, Paper, Print will feature artwork from members of the Central Coast Printmakers, a collective comprising approximately thirty artists who share a passion for printmaking.
The exhibition will encompass a wide array of artistic styles and printmaking techniques. Printmakers utilize various surfaces including wood, metal, linoleum, and plastic, employing methods such as block carving, acid etching, and painting materials to achieve captivating prints. A vast assortment of papers will be utilized to bring these images to life.
Notably, most prints are meticulously created in reverse, ensuring the correct orientation when transferred onto paper. This transfer is accomplished through hand rubbing or the utilization of a press.
In conjunction with Rock, Paper, Print, the Morro Bay Art Association will present the Abstraction exhibition in the Virginia Russell Gallery, located upstairs. Abstraction delves into the realm of self-expression and a departure from reality, where each brushstroke becomes a form of abstraction. The exhibition will showcase a variety of expressive expanses, featuring sharp edges, solid colors, geometric compositions, and brushed, poured, or spray-painted surfaces.
