Prescribed burn scheduled at Carrizo Plains this week
Burn aims to reduce wildfire risk and promote resilience
– A prescribed burn is scheduled to take place at the Carrizo Plains Ecological Reserve – American Ranch Unit as part of Cal Fire’s Vegetation Management Program and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s habitat restoration plan.
The burn, covering approximately 588 acres of rangeland, is set to occur Tuesday, Feb. 25, and Wednesday, Feb. 26, starting at 10 a.m. each day.
The burn will be conducted in cooperation with the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department, San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District, the San Luis Obispo County Community Fire Safe Council, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The goal of the prescribed burn is to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires and to promote ecological resilience and diversity in the landscape.
