Power pole collapse blocks traffic in Atascadero
Preliminary investigation determined that the modular home struck an overhead wire
– The Atascadero Police Department responded to the 8300 block of El Camino Real on Oct. 27 at about 9:30 a.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting power lines down across the roadway.
Officers arrived to find that nine power poles had fallen, blocking nearly two blocks of El Camino Real. Police contacted the driver of a vehicle towing an oversized load with a modular home being delivered through the area. A preliminary investigation determined that the modular home struck an overhead wire, triggering a chain reaction that caused the remaining poles to fall.
No pedestrians were in the area at the time of the incident, and the only vehicle damaged was a parked car. The affected lines were primarily communication lines, and there appeared to be minimal power disruption to nearby businesses and residences.
Utility and communication crews remained on scene, working to replace the poles and restore service.
Southbound lanes of El Camino Real remained open, while northbound traffic was diverted westbound at Santa Rosa Road.
