Police take security precautions for biker gang
Security forces surround police department
– Police from multiple agencies throughout the county are standing guard at the Paso Robles Police department today, in preparation for a ride through town of the Vagos Motorcycle Club expected tonight, according to an officer from the San Luis Obispo Police Department. Park and Pine streets are closed with barricades between 10th and 9th streets around the police department,
Multiple officers from departments all throughout the county are currently surrounding the police station as a precautionary measure, as the gang has been known to have a particular distaste for the police. Some agencies in attendance included the Atascadero Police Department, Arroyo Grande Police Department, Grover Beach Police Department, San Luis Obispo County Probation Department, California Highway Patrol and the San Luis Obispo Police Department.
The FBI as well as the Los Angeles Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the California Attorney General have named the Vagos as an outlaw motorcycle club, claiming that they are involved in criminal activities such as producing, transporting and distributing methamphetamine and marijuana, as well as assault, extortion, insurance fraud, money laundering, murder, vehicle theft, witness intimidation and weapons violations.
Vagos began in San Bernardino in 1965, and has since then gained about 4000 members.
In light of the recent shootout in Waco Texas, the backup support was brought in. Currently, there are officers stationed around the station wearing bullet-proof vests, acting as potential, “bullet bouncers,” according to the San Luis officer.
Paso Robles Police Chief Robert Burton was not available for comment at press time.
