Police respond to reported weapon sighting at Atascadero school

Early morning fireworks prompt multiple calls to Atascadero police

Lockdown lifted after student reports possible weapon

– At 1:35 p.m. on Oct. 8, officers from the Atascadero Police Department responded to Santa Rosa Academic Academy after a student reported seeing a possible weapon during a school break. The school, located at 8655 Santa Rosa Road, was immediately placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Officers and Atascadero Unified School District administrators secured the perimeter and launched an investigation. The student reported seeing a male subject retrieve what appeared to be a weapon from a vehicle and carry it into a nearby residence. The student was playing near the northern edge of the playground when the incident occurred.

Police conducted a thorough search of the area but were unable to identify the location mentioned by the student. Officers confirmed that the individual had not threatened or pointed the weapon at the student.

After determining that there was no immediate threat to public safety and that no crime had occurred, the police and school administrators lifted the lockdown, and the school resumed normal activities.
