Authorities on Wednesday ruled a suspicious death at an Atascadero motel a suicide, according to Atascadero Police Sergeant Jason Carr. It was “definitely not a homicide,” he said.

Police are not releasing the name of the victim, a 62-year-old Atascadero man, until next of kin can be notified, Carr said. The man died of a “self inflicted wound,” he said. Carr declined to say what kind of weapon was used.

Authorities were dispatched to a motel Wednesday morning after a housekeeper found a man’s body in a room, Carr confirmed.

Atascadero police, firefighters, medics, and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office responded to Motel 6 on the 9400 block of El Camino Real after receiving the call around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Carr said.
