Police recover stolen property after vehicle thefts

Several residents reported vehicles were ransacked in the Alcotan Lane area

Atascadero Police recovered stolen property following a vehicle theft investigation in the 9400 block of Alcotan Lane on the morning of Dec. 14, according to a recent Facebook post from APD.

Officers with the Atascadero Police Department responded to a report of theft from a vehicle and contacted a motorist leaving the area. Police determined the individual was in possession of several stolen items, including property reported by the original victim.

As the investigation continued throughout the day, additional residents in the area reported their vehicles had been ransacked and items stolen. Police said those reports helped officers reunite several victims with their property.

Police also recovered several unclaimed items of value, which are being held for safekeeping.

Residents who live in the Alcotan Lane area and believe property may have been taken from their vehicle on Dec. 14 are encouraged to contact the Atascadero Police Department at (805) 461-5051 to determine whether their items have been recovered.

Police reminded residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuables to help prevent theft.
