Police arrest man with weapons at Laguna Lake Park
Investigation determined that James Michael Taylor, 40, had been shooting the pellet gun in the park
– An arrest for weapons offenses took place at Laguna Lake Park on June 25 at 4:45 p.m., following a report of a man waiving a firearm, according to a press release from the San Luis Obispo Police Department.
A community member reportedly alerted the police about an adult male waiving what appeared to be a firearm near the boat ramp in Laguna Lake Park. Officers responded, set up observation and containment at a safe distance, and evacuated park visitors to a nearby parking lot on Madonna Road.
The suspect, James Michael Taylor, 40, a transient of San Luis Obispo, was taken into custody without incident. A search revealed that Taylor possessed a pellet gun resembling a handgun, a stun gun, and a shuriken (throwing star). The investigation determined that Taylor had been shooting the pellet gun in the park.
Taylor was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on the following charges:
- PC 22410 – possession of a shuriken (throwing star), felony
- PC 22610 – convicted felon in possession of a stun gun, misdemeanor
- SLMC 9.16.020 A – discharge of a dangerous weapon, misdemeanor
