Police arrest Los Osos man for child sexual abuse content
More than 600 files found in police investigation
– Police arrested a Los Osos man Wednesday morning following an investigation involving multiple reports of child sexual abuse material.
San Luis Obispo Police Department detectives arrested David Augustine Hurley, 28, of Los Osos, at his place of employment at 9:45 a.m. on July 30. The arrest followed a case involving three Cybertips and more than 600 files of child sexual abuse material.
The department is part of the Central California Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which works in partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to investigate reports of child sexual abuse material. Electronic service providers such as Facebook, Google and Reddit can issue Cybertips when users upload material involving child pornography. The tips are forwarded to law enforcement agencies based on the IP address location.
Following the arrest, detectives served a search warrant at Hurley’s residence on the 1000 block of Pismo Avenue in Los Osos, where they seized electronic devices for evidence.
Hurley was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on the following charges:
- Penal Code 311.11(a)(1) – felony possession of child sexual abuse material
- Penal Code 311.11(c)(1) – felony possession of more than 600 images of child sexual abuse material
- Penal Code 311.2(b) – distribution of child sexual abuse material
Police said the investigation is ongoing but that detectives currently do not believe there are any local victims.
