Overnight lane closures planned on Highway 101 near Wellsona this week
One lane remains open in both directions during overnight work
– Alternating lane closures in both directions of US 101 are scheduled as part of an ongoing project to construct an undercrossing and frontage road near the intersection of US 101 and Wellsona Road.
Overnight lane closures and a traffic switch will take place on Tuesday, April 7, Wednesday, April 8, and Thursday, April 9, from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. One lane will remain open in both directions during the closures.
The closure will allow Caltrans crews to remove temporary barriers and install permanent delineation.
Wellsona Road access from US 101 will remain unchanged. Direct access to Wellsona Road (west) will be available for southbound motorists and remain accessible via detour for northbound motorists. Wellsona Road (east) will remain accessible via detour for southbound motorists and directly accessible via right-turn lane for northbound motorists.
The project creates a new undercrossing beneath US 101, south of the existing intersection, eliminating the need for motorists to make left turns across traffic on US 101. It includes a 112-foot-long bridge and a frontage road to connect the undercrossing with Wellsona Road on either side of US 101.
The contractor for the $12.2 million project is CalPortland Construction of Santa Maria. Project completion is projected for late April.
