Opera San Luis Obispo hosting a virtual summer camp
Participants will have the opportunity to learn a variety of opera and stage-related skills
–Opera San Luis Obispo is offering a virtual summer opera camp from July 12-23 for ages 9-18, which will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday-Friday
Students will take part in daily group voice lessons, acting classes, private coaching sessions, and masterclasses given by instructors and performing artists from all over the U.S. from the comfort of their own homes.
Children will learn:
- Correct vocal technique
- Drama and stage movement
- Ear-training and musicianship
- Part singing and choral techniques
- Use of props, costumes, and makeup
- Daily vocal, stretch, and movement exercises
- Acting techniques
- Audition techniques
All classes and coachings will occur via Zoom and will culminate in a final watch party performance of “For The Love of Music: A Journey Through the American Songbook” on Friday, July 23 at 6 p.m.
Each participant will perform a monologue focused on telling a story of how music connects people and is shared from generation to generation, take part in a virtual choir recording experience and perform solo songs.
All materials will be sent electronically. All students must have use of a device to record videos and play backing tracks, as well as a separate device for the video call classes.
The cost is $275 per participant, but there are need-based scholarships available as long as funds permit. Applications for the camp or scholarship can both be found on the event page.
