Nomination period deadline for Nov. election is Aug. 10
–Anyone interested in running for one of the contests on the Nov. 6, 2018 General Election must complete the necessary paperwork by Friday, Aug. 10. In the event that all incumbents for an office do not file by the Aug. 10 deadline, non-incumbent candidates for that office have until Wednesday, Aug. 15 to complete the paperwork.
County Clerk-Recorder Tommy Gong states that “Business has been brisk for candidate filing for school and special district contests, but only one-fifth of the districts have a sufficient number of candidates for the contest to be on the ballot.”
The list of candidates who have filed for office can be found on the County Clerk-Recorder’s website at www.SLOvote.com. A list of contests, qualifications and other information for candidates are available in the Candidate’s Manual on the website.
Candidates need to plan on spending about 30 minutes with clerk-recorder staff to learn of the requirements and complete paperwork. Anyone interested in running is encouraged to call the elections office at (805) 781-5228 to make an appointment so clerk-recorder staff can prepare the candidate’s paperwork prior to his or her arrival. Candidates for city offices must file with their respective city clerk.
Anyone with questions concerning the nomination period or elections can contact the clerk-recorder at (805) 781-5228.
