New ‘Music Makers’ class available for Kindergarten and First Graders in Atascadero
–The Central Coast Children’s Choir (CCCC) is welcoming new singers into ‘Music Makers’, a nine-week interactive music class. Classes take place in SLO (Tuesdays) beginning Feb. 7, from 3-3:45 p.m., at the SLO United Methodist Church, and in Atascadero (Wednesdays) from 3-3:45 p.m. beginning on Feb. 8, at the San Benito Elementary School, Music Room in Atascadero. The last session culminates with an in-class performance for parents. The 45-minute introductory class will teach children about music through interaction by singing songs and playing musical instruments. The tuition is $100 for the 9-week session.
“Music Makers is the perfect introductory experience for young children to sing outside the home,” said teacher Anne Olson. “Activities include learning classic songs and rounds, exploring different musical concepts, and lots of rhythm and singing games. The key is that we do this all in a non-intimidating environment full of fun, laughter, and games.”
Olson teaches Debut Choir and Music Makers classes in both SLO and North County. She is a veteran choral and classroom music teacher, having taught in the Atascadero Unified and Templeton School Districts plus over a decade with the CCCC. She pioneered the first North County Debut Choir in 2006.
Founded in 1994, the CCCC is in their 23rd season and draws its members from the SLO community, and from San Miguel to Santa Maria. Children learn healthy singing techniques, receive musicianship training, and are taught performing skills, culminating in community concerts and other events. The chorus is comprised of approximately 100 girls and boys and is divided by age and ability into five groups.
