New math learning center in Atascadero hosting ribbon cutting Thursday
Center now open in Von’s shopping center
– Mathnasium of Atascadero is open for business, bringing effective and fun math learning programs after school hours to the Atascadero community children in grades two through 12. The learning center focuses solely on math and operates on the core belief that virtually any child can excel in mathematics.
The center will host an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, July 20, at 4:30 p.m., at the learning center in Von’s shopping center. The public is welcome to attend.
Founded in Southern California 20 years ago, The Mathnasium Method, implemented now at more than 1,115 Mathnasium centers worldwide, 1,004 centers in the US with 171 centers in California alone, is a unique program that provides each child with a customized learning plan and personalized instruction in a way that makes sense to them.
Students receive the fundamental theory and practice they need to master number facts, build computational skills, and improve number sense, i.e., an intuitive understanding of how numbers work. Experience shows the majority of students in public schools are 2-3 years behind in math, mostly attributable to the COVID-19-induced school shutdown and the high 30-one student-to-teacher ratio, according to Mathnasium.
“Our goal is simple: to teach math in a way that makes sense to kids. Mathnasium centers across the country are helping struggling students develop into ‘A’ students, and ‘A’ students go on to even greater achievements. We are thrilled to be able to bring our Mathnasium Method to support the families of Atascadero,” said Michael Rosen, director of Mathnasium-Atascadero Center.
The Mathnasium experience begins with an assessment to pinpoint a child’s strengths and weaknesses. These results provide the foundation from which Mathnasium constructs each student’s customized learning plan. Students learn math in a friendly, productive learning environment. Caring, knowledgeable instructors are well-versed in integrating Mathnasium’s techniques with the math curriculum taught in Atascadero schools.
The Mathnasium Method uses a unique combination of mental, verbal, visual, tactile, and written procedures to help children understand math and has been developed over more than 20 years of practical experience with thousands of students. Mathnasium Centers have a student-instructor ratio of four to one, whereas most schools have a teacher-student ratio of 30 to one. Mathnasium students receive the support they need for school homework and tests while building their math foundations.
Mathnasium strives to offer Atascadero students a balanced math learning experience that “fills in the gaps, keeps students on track with math taught in school, and, most importantly, makes learning math a fun and joyful experience.”
Mathnasium is currently hiring math instructors for the summer and fall. To learn more, call Michael Rosen (805) 471-6108 or drop into the Mathnasium Center at 7041 El Camino Real, Atascadero (in the Von’s shopping center three doors down from Starbucks).
