Nature walk in the Elfin Forest to discuss insects
–Small Wilderness Area Preservation or SWAP will have an “Insect walk” on July 20 at 9:30 a.m.
There are dozens, perhaps hundreds of different species of arthropods living in the Forest. Entomologist Dr. Norman Smith will search every nook and cranny along the boardwalk for the Good, Bad, and Ugly of these creatures, as well as late summer butterflies. The importance and ecology of our local insects will be discussed during the walk. If you’d like to see the insects close up, bring a hand lens or close-focusing binoculars.
Walks in the Elfin Forest begin at times stated above at the north end (1100 block) of 15th Street off Santa Ysabel in Los Osos. Wear closed-toe shoes, long sleeves and pants to avoid poison oak and mosquitoes. Park carefully, avoiding driveways and mailboxes, and leave pets at home. The easy-paced walks last 1-1/2 to 2 hours. For more information call (805) 528-0392.
