Morro Bay Lighted Boat Parade happening Saturday

Santa visits scheduled on multiple dates along the Embarcadero

– The Rotary Club of Morro Bay will present the annual Lighted Boat Parade and Santa’s House during the Christmas season.

The parade will occur on the second Saturday of December this year due to King Tides on the first Saturday.

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will open Santa’s House at the giant chessboard on the Embarcadero from Dec. 5 through Dec. 7, Dec. 12 through Dec. 14 and Dec. 19 through Dec. 21. Visitors may take photos with Santa for free.

Santa’s House will also open on Dec. 11 in collaboration with an outdoor showing of the movie “Elf,” presented by the Friends of the Morro Bay Harbor Department. The movie will be shown in the parking area between the Libertine and Rose’s Landing at Front Street and Embarcadero. Visitors may take a photo with Santa and receive a gift.

On the night of the Lighted Boat Parade, Dec. 13, Santa’s House will host the Morro Bay Uke Ladies ukulele group, which will play and lead a sing-along of carols. The group will perform again on Dec. 20.

The parade of lighted boats will begin at 6 p.m. on Dec. 13. The Morro Bay White Caps will perform holiday music at 5:30 p.m. at the South T-Pier. Coffee, hot chocolate and other items will be sold at Santa’s House to raise funds for Rotary civic projects.

Commercial and recreational boaters may participate in the parade. Boats will be judged and eligible for cash prizes. Applications are available at the Morro Bay Harbor Department or by visiting the Rotary website at morrobayrotary.org to download the application and skipper’s guide.

Viewing areas will be located along the Embarcadero from Tidelands Park to Morro Rock. Several restaurants will offer reservations and window seating. Parking and walking to the event is encouraged, and those who wish to view from their car are advised to arrive early. If weather conditions make the parade unsafe, the Harbor Department and Rotary club will cancel the event.
