Morro Bay Art Association presents Kumihimo Braided Cord Workshop 

-Don’t miss the first in a series of Ancient Arts workshops by lapidary artist, Beverly Brown. The first workshop is Kumihimo Braided Cord, a Japanese fiber art. Students will learn how to make a beautiful braided cord that will be useful in a variety of ways such as necklace chain, dog leash, collar, key chain or decorative edging on clothing.

Workshop is Sept 26, 12-4 p.m. at the Art Center Morro Bay, 835 Main Street, Morro Bay. Cost is $65 for art center members, $70 for nonmembers. Register online at the art center website.

All supplies and tools are provided. All supplies and tools are provided. Your kit will include 2 weaving disks, 8 bobbins, illustrated instructions, and approximately 20 yards of fiber. In the class, you may choose from an array of deer sinew, bamboo, silk, cotton and other fibers. Once you complete the class, you’ll have the skill to create a number of projects.

Beverly has taught wire sculpture and other jewelry techniques for 12 years. Her fascination with ancient techniques has led her to a new series of workshops. Beverly’s background in Occupational Therapy makes her uniquely qualified in her approach to teaching therapeutic techniques. She demonstrates how humor and patience can ease the stress of beginning a new craft, and stresses the importance of set-up and positioning to avoid frustration and fatigue.
