Local wrestling programs unite to form new training center

Paso Robles facility provides year-round training for young athletes

– Two of the Central Coast’s leading youth wrestling programs, Smash Mouth Wrestling Club in Paso Robles and Mad Dog Wrestling Club in Atascadero, have merged to form Origin Training Center.

The new wrestling club, located at 2919 Union Road, Unit G in Paso Robles, aims to provide a high-level training environment for youth wrestlers from across the region. The facility features two full-size mats and a spacious training area designed for competitive wrestling.

Origin Training Center is led by coaches Mitch Monteiro, Nate Ybarra, Jayson Davidson, and Joe Belmonte.

Origin Training Center is led by coaches Mitch Monteiro, Nate Ybarra, Jayson Davidson, and Joe Belmonte, all of whom have longstanding ties to the Central Coast wrestling community. The club will offer year-round training, allowing athletes to develop their skills continuously. The coaching staff includes Division I wrestlers and a focus on top-tier training partners.

By merging two rival programs, Origin Training Center aims to redefine wrestling culture on the Central Coast. The club’s mission is to provide young athletes with the resources, training, and competition necessary to succeed at the highest levels.

Origin Training Center is also expanding its girls’ wrestling program. With girls’ wrestling being one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, the club is looking to develop more female wrestlers. Several athletes from the program have already gone on to compete at the collegiate level, and the club is seeking to build on that foundation by welcoming new female wrestlers to join the team.

Training sessions include elite wrestling on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., novice wrestling classes on Tuesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., high school training on Tuesday and Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and cross-training speed and agility classes on Tuesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
