Shops open in Paso Robles and Templeton

Sinton & Sons have opened two local stores, located in Paso Robles and Templeton, with a focus on quality meats and artisanal products. In addition to their storefronts, Sinton & Sons runs a processing facility for local farmers and ranchers.

“We really want to focus on getting local proteins that everyone who lives here in San Luis Obispo County and visitors to our area can trust to be of the highest standard and raised in the right way,” said owner Daniel Sinton. “We are excited to focus on small local ranchers and farmers who we know personally to provide beef, lamb, pork and chicken. We’re also looking to carry provisions that are local as well. Local cheeses, mushrooms, honey, treats, pasta, and anything else we can get our hands on.”

The stores have opened in the old location of J&R Natural Meats, which closed in June after 14 years in business.

“Opening Sinton & Sons – Local Meats and Provisions is a huge step toward achieving one of our cornerstone philosophies of pushing more profits back to the ranchers and farmers. For over a half a century, the American rancher and farmer has gotten a smaller percentage of the total profits and it is putting a lot of them out of business. We hope to change that for our local community and be able to provide these great products to those who live and visit here,” Sinton said.

Meats sold at Sinton & Sons are sourced from local ranchers; for example, beef is from Avenales Ranch and Canyon Ranch, which is run by the Sinton family, and Outlaw Valley Ranch, which also supplies lamb. These ranches have a focus on regenerative grazing, prioritizing conservation and sustainability, and humane treatment. Other products, such as honey from local Creston Bee Co., will also be available.

“Consumers will find a very inviting experience as they walk into our stores to a clean and beautiful environment to shop for truly local meats. On the processing side, we are purchasing a lot of equipment to allow us to service all different types of animals and ensure that we are able to butcher and produce a final product that honors the animal and all of the hard work that the farmers and ranchers have put in,” Sinton said.

The Sinton family have a deep history of ranching in San Luis Obispo County, going back over 140 years. Bernard Sinsheimer, Sinton’s great-great-grandfather, first worked in a downtown SLO store, later expanding into the Pozo and Shandon region with purchasing land; Sinton notes that “each generation after him has worked diligently to maintain and steward that land.” The California Rangeland Trust implemented a conservation easement on the Avenales Ranch in 2017 to protect the land and legacy.

In addition, Avenales Ranch serves as a winery with grapes sourced from their Shell Creek Vineyards, which has been around for over 50 years. The vineyard is a popular location for wildflower sightings.

“We want to get back to the good old days of providing proteins and provisions, like cheeses, honey, almonds, wine and all the other great things this county produces, from local sources. Instead of going to a giant chain grocery store for everything, you can go to someone who is concentrated on one thing, proteins. We want you to be able to go to a place that knows exactly where the animals were raised, what breed they were, why they taste differently and ensure that they were raised humanely and to a standard we can trust,” Sinton said.

Sinton & Sons is located at 3450 Riverside Ave. in Paso Robles and at 1121 Rossi Rd. in Templeton. For more information, call (805) 237 – 8100 or visit their website here.
