Lights of Hope to be lit at community event on Friday, Nov. 25
Locals join forces to light up Paso Robles in honor of those affected by cancer
–When Mrs. Claus flips the switch Friday night, more than 35,000 lights will be turned on at the annual Downtown Tree Lighting Ceremony on Nov. 25. Paso’s Lights of Hope, a unique fundraising event for the local non-profit agency, Cancer Support Community-California Central Coast, will keep the lights shining nightly through Feb. 12, 2017.
“We kick off our lighting with the downtown tree lighting ceremony on Friday, but sponsorship opportunities have been underway since early November,” said CSC Executive Director Shannon D’Acquisto. “This is our fourth year of collaborating with the Downtown Association and the City of Paso Robles to make the lights on the trees throughout the downtown city park a reality.”
At 5:30 p.m., the community is invited to gather at the Paso Robles Downtown City Park Bandstand area and, at 6 p.m., Mrs. Claus will arrive to flip the light switch. Throughout the evening, the crowd will enjoy free cookies and hot chocolate, live music, speeches, and candlelight caroling; admission is free.
Eighteen trees will be lit this year, up from fourteen last year, according to D’Acquisto. To date, tree sponsors include: Paso Robles Main Street Association, Clark and Lacey, The Teresa Rhyne Law Group, Community Tree, Paso Robles Ford, San Luis Sports Therapy, Heart to Heart Real Estate, Prime Commercial Real Estate, Thom Schulz and Laura Coats, and a tree sponsored in honor and remembrance of Dr. Berry Foran.
“Lights of Hope is our way of helping to beautify the city park for the holidays while also raising funds and awareness for our programs in a unique and special way,” said D’Acquisto. “We invite businesses and individuals to honor loved ones by sponsoring a bulb, a branch, or an entire tree.”
Paso’s Lights of Hope is co-sponsored by the City of Paso Robles and the Paso Robles Downtown Association.
