Letter: North County resident backs candidates committed to affordable housing

letter to the editor

– Atascadero is truly fortunate to have a dedicated team of leaders in future Mayor Charles Bourbeau and City Council candidates Mark Dariz, Seth Peek, and Tori Keen. Their vision and commitment to our community reflect the aspirations of residents who want to see our city continue to grow and thrive. Each of these candidates brings unique skills and perspectives that are vital for navigating the challenges we face as we progress toward a bright future.

Under current Mayor Heather Moreno’s leadership, Atascadero has seen remarkable growth and development. The groundwork has been laid, and it’s clear that we are on the right track. However, we must recognize that much work still lies ahead. A key priority for Atascadero is the urgent need for workforce housing. As we welcome new businesses and families, it’s imperative that we ensure affordable housing options are available for all. This is not just about providing shelter; it’s about creating a sustainable environment where our workforce can thrive, ensuring that our children can afford to stay in the community they grew up in.

Candidates Mark Dariz, Seth Peek, and Tori Keen share a profound commitment to addressing these challenges head-on. They understand that the fight for housing is crucial—not just for our families, but for the health of our local economy. The ability to live, work, and raise a family in Atascadero must remain within reach for everyone. As we continue to advocate for thoughtful development and responsible planning, we must ensure that our community remains accessible and vibrant.

Mr. Bourbeau told us, “As Mayor, I plan to continue the progress we have made in making our downtown more vibrant, making our police and fire departments stronger, and improving our roads and public facilities. I hope to improve our housing affordability by allowing smaller units and higher densities where appropriate, especially in the downtown where we should allow taller buildings with more apartments.”

This election is pivotal. By supporting Charles Bourbeau and these outstanding candidates, we are investing in a future where Atascadero remains a place of opportunity, prosperity, and community spirit. Let’s stand together in the fight for housing, ensuring that Atascadero is a city where we can all afford to live and grow. Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient community for generations to come.
