Letter: Both candidates are nice people, but Michielssen has my vote
To the editor,
To allow for harmony at times like this since we are registered in different political parties we make a habit of looking at candidates with a critical eye so our votes don’t cancel each other out. There have been multiple letters to the editor talking about how nice our sitting 5th District Supervisor is. I don’t know her personally but I’m sure she’s a nice person. Eric Michielssen is a nice person. We should have nice people in leadership positions. (Sorry Donald Trump).
The issue is not are they nice people but who has the depth of knowledge and experience to address the complex and critical issues facing our county. They each have run their own small business so I guess that makes them friendly to business. But, as a recent article in The Tribune noted, one of the largest issues facing our communities is the affordable housing crisis. This has an extremely long-term impact on the quality of our services and ultimately our standard of living.
Eric has the experience through his 17 years working with Peoples’ Self-Help Housing a non-profit national award winning organization that develops affordable low income housing. During his time with the organization he’s had in depth experience creating long-term capital plans, developing multi-million dollar budgets while managing risk over more than 40 properties and 1,500 affordable housing units. Eric understands the complexities of the issue and has pragmatic solutions to bring to the table.
Each of these candidates want what is best for the community. Eric has the depth of experience to see that that happens. It’s time to bring these qualifications to the 5th District Supervisors seat.
After thoroughly reviewing each of the candidates’ resumes, we’re placing our votes on Eric.
