Kiwanis Club awards $30,000 in scholarships to local students
– The Atascadero Kiwanis Club awarded $30,000 in scholarships to local students this year, recognizing academic achievement and vocational promise through 23 individual awards, according to a recent edition of the club’s newsletter.
The scholarships included 10 academic scholarships of $1,500 each, six vocational scholarships of $1,000 each, one Brian Myracle Endowment Scholarship of $2,000, and two Key Club scholarships of $500 each. An additional four academic scholarships of $1,500 each were donated by Bob and Johanna Friedrichsen and Ned and Connie Thompson.
The Kiwanis scholarship committee reviewed applications and interviewed candidates before making final decisions. Committee members included Albert Almodova, Brent Wingett, Pam Contreras, Ned Thompson, Bob Friedrichsen, Rex West, and E.J. Rossi.
The scholarship program is part of the club’s ongoing mission to support youth and education in the community.
