Juveniles reportedly set fire to office building

–On Monday, at 10:52 p.m., Atascadero Department of Fire and Emergency Services responded to a report of a structure fire in an office building under renovation at 5812 Entrada in Atascadero.

Responders found a single story occupancy with fire seen through the front window of the structure. The fire was burning an area approximately 3’X 5′ on the floor of the structure. The items burning included the structure’s floor, construction materials and a power saw. The fire had not spread into the open wall studs and was quickly extinguished by fire crews utilizing a water extinguisher.

The fire was intentionally started by two male juveniles, according to Atascadero Fire and Police. Firefighters used caution approaching the scene and worked closely with police officers until the two suspects were taken into custody.

It took approximately 5 minutes to contain the fire. Crews remained at scene for approximately 1 hour to assist Atascadero Police Officers with the investigation.

There was an estimated property and content value loss of $1,500 with an estimated $400,000 value of the property saved.

The incident is still under investigation.
