Candidate seeks third term on council
–Former Atascadero planning commissioner, former senior analyst for the County of San Luis Obispo, author of the Atascadero Incorporation Study, and current city council member Roberta Fonzi has a long and successful resumé as a city leader.
When she first got elected to the city council in 2008, Fonzi says, “It was dysfunctional—the public couldn’t speak at city council meetings and there was a hostile atmosphere. I’ve been an advocate for the people rather than an adversary.”
Fonzi says, “I am accountable to voters and accessible and responsive to them, open to emails and calls and I follow through on things.”
The job calls for attention to the needs of voters and the long-term vision of how Atascadero wants to evolve as a bedroom community seeking to maintain a healthy balance between city life and country values.
In her current bid to win re-election, Fonzi wants to reinvigorate the Atascadero City Council, and calls for the community to strive for consensus. “The reasons I’m running again are mainly I think it’s important to have someone on the council who is civil and has an open mind. And I want to keep Atascadero business-friendly.” She said that on the council, “We disagree occasionally, but we disagree agreeably.”
Furthermore, Fonzi is determined to maintain local control inasmuch as possible, because, she points out, “The county and the state are imposing things on cities, making things difficult; they have regional boards that try to take too much control over local affairs.”
“I want to promote our local economy, not only commercial development such as Walmart but places to eat and shop. We need to focus on job creation, while at the same, protecting Atascadero’s rural values and way of life.”
One of the top real estate agents in her region with Century 21, Roberta Fonzi grew up in Atascadero, attended Atascadero High and graduated from Cal Poly with honors. In addition to being a businesswoman, she is the mother of four. Apart from her bona fides as a resident of San Luis Obispo County, Fonzi and her husband have lived all over the United States and in Europe. She brings to the city council extensive knowledge as well as experience, integrity and the determination to make a difference.
Roberta Fonzi has won many endorsements including that of the Tribune. Vote Roberta Fonzi for City Council of Atascadero on Nov. 8th.
