Hounds tame the Mustangs, Eagles clip the Cardinals

–The Atascadero Greyhounds (2-0) traveled to Bakersfield Friday night and, despite the heat and delay of game, brought home a 26-23 victory over the Stockdale Mustangs (1-1).

The Hounds scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, the Mustangs scored one in the second quarter, and Atascadero led 13-7 going into halftime. The Hounds added six points in the third quarter to the Mustangs’ seven. In the fourth, Stockdale added another nine points to the scoreboard but, with Atascadero adding seven points, it was not enough for the Mustangs to claim the win at home as the Hounds handed them a 26-23 defeat.

Atascadero is set to travel to Mountain View on Friday, Sept. 18 to face the St. Francis Golden Knights (2-0). Varsity game time is set for 7:30 p.m. with the Frosh team taking the field at 3 p.m. and JV at 5 p.m.

–The Templeton High School Eagles traveled down south Friday night to take on the Santa Paula Cardinals and brought home an impressive 33-13 win to bolster their undefeated record to 3-0.

The first quarter had both sides battling to keep the score 0-0. By the second quarter, a fumble by an Eagle that landed in the arms of fellow Eagle Matteo D’Alfanso resulted in a 67-yard touchdown. Santa Paula returned, led by Zackery Marquez, to tie up the score 7-7 going into halftime.

Although a fairly even match-up, the Eagles came alive in the second half of the game by scoring an additional 26 points. Eagles Jordan Bernal, Michael Capelli, Isaac Lindsay, Clint Howland and Matteo D’Alfanso all brought in touchdowns for Templeton to bolster the scoreboard to an impressive 33-13 win over the Cardinals.

Clint Howland led the Eagles with 14 tackles, followed by Josh Morris with a total of eight. Brandon Bracy continues to lead the team in interceptions, and helped Templeton by bringing in another one Friday night. Isaac Lindsay topped the rushing totals with 64 yards, followed by Angel Avelar with 52.

The Templeton Eagles (3-0) aim to continue their undefeated record on Friday, Sept. 18 as they host the San Luis Obispo Tigers (0-3) in their second home game of the season. Game time is set for 7 p.m. for varsity, 4 p.m. for JV.
