–State Route 41 remains closed between Ironwood Drive and San Gabriel Road between Morro Bay and Atascadero in San Luis Obispo County due to recent mud and rockslide activity. This closure is anticipated to last until mid-February, weather permitting, according to the California Department of Transportation.

More than 20,000 cubic yards of material is resting on rocks and needs to be removed before the highway can be re-opened. Caltrans engineers are actively responding to this incident and are beginning the process of removing this loose material so it does not fall onto the highway.

Motorists may use Hwy. 41 beyond Ironwood Drive near Morro Bay west of the closure while motorists may use Hwy. 41 beyond San Gabriel Road east of the closure by showing a local identification to the flagger stationed at each end of the closure.

Access through the slide area west of Cerro Alto Road (Post Mile 6.0) will be limited only to emergency responders.

The contractor for this $1.5 million dollar emergency project is Windsor Construction of Cambria.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down while driving through highway construction zones.

For traffic updates on other state highway projects in San Luis Obispo County, motorists can call Caltrans District 5 Public Affairs at (805) 549-3318 or visit the District 5 website at: http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist05/road_information.htm
