Highway 1 reopens from Cambria to Big Sur
– Highway 1 from Cambria to Big Sur has reopened, restoring full access to the coastal route for the first time in three years.
The reopening includes the stretch of Highway 1 between Carmel and Cambria, according to a statement from Gavin Newsom.
“NEW: Highway 1 from Carmel to Cambria in Big Sur has now reopened,” Newsom said. “Grateful to Caltrans HQ crews for delivering 3 months ahead of schedule, reviving a vital economic lifeline for local business owners and residents affected by the closure.”
The highway closure had limited travel along the central California coast and affected access for residents, businesses, and visitors.
