High-speed crash closes Highway 41, causes power outage
On Saturday afternoon, Atascadero resident Jacob M. Helgren, 25, crashed his car along Highway 41 causing the highway to be closed and a power outage in the area, California Highway Patrol reports. The highway was closed east of Atascadero for about three hours while Pacific Gas and Electric crews repaired damaged power lines.
Helgren was driving a 1989 Buick on the higway near Kingsbury Road at about 4:10 p.m. when he drove off the road and rolled over, hit a mailbox and then a power pole, the report says. The car landed on its roof.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the accident, CHP reports. There were no injures in the crash.
