Grover Beach police arrest domestic violence suspect after standoff
– Grover Beach Police officers responded to a domestic violence incident in the 600 block of North 12th Street on Jan. 24.
Officers contacted the female victim at a local hospital and determined that a felony domestic violence incident had occurred. Patrol officers later attempted to arrest the male suspect at his residence on North 12th Street, but the suspect refused to come to the door.
During the investigation, officers determined that a small child was inside the home with the suspect. For safety reasons, the San Luis Obispo Regional Special Weapons and Tactics team was activated.
The regional team is a multi-agency partnership that includes the Grover Beach Police Department, Paso Robles Police Department, San Luis Obispo Police Department, Cal Poly Police Department, Morro Bay Police Department, Pismo Beach Police Department, Arroyo Grande Police Department, and California State Parks.
After the team was deployed, negotiators persuaded the suspect to surrender peacefully. The suspect exited the residence with the child and was taken into custody without incident. The child was uninjured and was released to a family member.
Lorenzo Zamora Torres, 34, of Grover Beach, was arrested and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon, and violation of a restraining order.
The Grover Beach Police Department reported that it relied on assistance from neighboring public safety agencies during the incident.
