Winner advances to the state championships
– The Atascadero Greyhound footfall team travels to Colusa for a semifinal game in the CIF State Championship. Colusa is an agricultural town on the Sacramento River, an hour north of Sacramento. The population is 6,428. The high school has about 500 students.
The Colusa Redhawks are 10-2 this season. Their two losses were to opponents in their own Sacramento Valley- Conference-Winters (31-26) and East Nicolaus (43-14). The Redhawks ranked #387 in the state.
The Atascadero Greyhounds (9-4) are ranked #362 in the state. The Greyhound’s lost the first three games of this season, but they’re 9-1 since. Their only other loss was to Pioneer Valley (21-20) in the final game of the regular season. The Greyhounds avenged that loss by beating Pioneer Valley (27-13) to win the CIF-Central Section last Friday night.
In nearly every game, the Greyhounds have come from behind to win.
Kick-off is at 6 p.m. Saturday night in Colusa. The winner advances to the State Championship Bowl game in Division V.
The other semifinal game is in Southern California between San Gabriel (11-3) and Kennedy of Granada Hills (9-5). The winner of that game Saturday in Southern California will play the winner of the Atascadero -Colusa game.
