Greyhounds play Cabrillo for Ocean League title
Game slated for Friday afternoon at Atascadero High School
– The Atascadero Greyhounds baseball team hosts Cabrillo Friday afternoon in a game that will decide the outright title in the Ocean League. The game is to be played at 4:30 p.m. Friday afternoon at Atascadero High School.
Tuesday, the Greyhounds beat Cabrillo 7-1 in Lompoc. So, Atascadero is 11-2 and Cabrillo is 10-3 in league play. Overall, Atascadero is 21-5 and Cabrillo is 20-5. (According to Max Preps, Tuesday’s game was suspended in the bottom of the 7th inning and will resume at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon at Atascadero High School.)
Friday’s scheduled game is the Greyhound’s final home game of the regular season. Next Thursday, they travel to Santa Maria to play Righetti. The Warriors are 12-0 in the Mountain League, 19-6 overall.
The Greyhounds are led by Seniors Jake Hixenbaugh and Johnnie Dubrum, Jake leads the team with a .551 batting average and 13 doubles. Johnnie is batting .476 with five home runs. Junior Drew Cappel is batting .426 with four home runs and 23 stolen bases. Junior Logan Gibbons is batting .426. Gibbons also has 15 RBIs.
On the mound, Jr. Chase Viale is 5-1 with an ERA of 1.55. Sr. Donovan Kerr is 5-4 with a 1.97 ERA. Jr. Jarom Damery is 3-0 with an ERA of 4.29. These three pitchers have also hit well. Kerr is hitting .412. Viale is averaging .357 at the plate. Damery is batting .319.
A number of outstanding players have contributed to the team’s success. As a team, the Greyhounds are hitting .382. The pitchers are averaging a 2.00 ERA.
The Greyhounds are ranked #19 in the Central Section, just behind Clovis West.
Bullard is the top-ranked team in the Central Section with a record of 20-3.
