‘Get to know your Muslim neighbors’ event to be held in San Luis Obispo
Event will be held Feb. 24 from 5-7 p.m.
–The Mosque of Nasreen and the Islamic Society of San Luis Obispo County will hold a “Get To Know Your Muslim Neighbors,” event. This event, inspired by the Pro-Peace Immigration Vigil organized by the Women’s March San Luis Obispo, will take place on Feb. 24, from 5 – 7 p.m., at the Mosque of Nasreen, located at 1136 Walnut Street in San Luis Obispo.
The invitation reads: “The Muslim community in San Luis Obispo is one that stands for human rights, civil liberties, diversity, and compassion for our shared humanity. The objective of this event is to bring our communities together, build bridges, unite in common values, and voice our concerns.”
“We’ve had many people reach out to us recently who are concerned about our well-being after the divisive election campaign and especially after the temporary travel ban executive order,” Noha Kolkailah, one of the organizers, said. “We are grateful for the support we’ve been receiving. We are inviting everyone to this event to discuss how we can support each other and how we can continue to build connections with our neighbors.”
The event will start with a meet and greet at 5 p.m., followed by a panel of speakers at 5:30 p.m. and Q&A session. Among the announced speakers are Rubia Siddiqi, Cal Poly Muslim Student Association President, and Dr. Hisham, Cal Poly Professor of Architecture.
Organizers will also provide postcards for the attendees to write to their representatives. Refreshments will be served.
