Fundraiser aids North County business owners during cancer battle

– A GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched to support the Espy family as they navigate significant medical and financial challenges related to a renewed cancer diagnosis.

According to the organizers, Mike, Lisa, Bella, Hayes, and Farren Espy have faced multiple hardships in recent years. Mike and Lisa are the owners of Thomas Hill Organics, which they purchased in 2022. The family has continued operating the business while managing personal and financial strain.

In 2023, Mike was diagnosed with colon cancer. Lisa became a full-time caregiver while continuing to run the restaurant, and their children assisted with the business. After treatment, Mike was declared cancer-free. Shortly afterward, a car crashed into the restaurant, causing major damage.

In 2025, Mike learned that his cancer had returned as Stage 4. Treatment began immediately. His most recent surgery was postponed due to serious blood clots.

Organizers said the family has contributed to the San Luis Obispo County community and is now seeking support as medical and financial pressures increase. The fundraiser encourages donations, shares and messages of encouragement for the family.

The fundraising page includes a quote from Steve Maraboli: “Life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving; we get stronger and more resilient.”
