Friends of the Morro Bay Harbor Department celebrate milestones
Group has raised $250,000 to support Morro Bay harbor
– This year, the Friends of the Morro Bay Harbor Department celebrates a significant milestone: a decade of dedicated service and raising approximately $250,000 to support Morro Bay Harbor’s critical needs. What began as a vision to fill the funding void left by the power plant’s withdrawal has blossomed into a decade of impactful community action.
The Friends of the Morro Bay Harbor Department, conceptualized by Bill Luffee during his tenure on the Harbor Advisory Board, has become synonymous with community-driven efforts to maintain and enhance the harbor’s facilities and services. From repairing Lifeguard Towers to refurbishing the Sea Lion Dock, each project funded by the organization has played a vital role in preserving the harbor’s safety and charm. A detailed list of these projects can be found at www.friendsofthembhd.org.
The success of the group is a story of community spirit and generosity. The support from Morro Bay’s residents and harbor enthusiasts has been astonishing. This collective effort has not only filled critical funding gaps but has also bolstered the community’s bond with its beloved harbor.
As the group marks this 10-year anniversary, their focus is set on the next goal: funding a new rescue UTV. This crucial vehicle will enhance the capabilities of the Harbor Department and Beach Lifeguards, reinforcing the safety net that the organization continually seeks to strengthen. “The journey of the past ten years has been a profound expression of what a community can achieve together,” Bill Luffee said, “We are immensely grateful for the support and look forward to continuing our work with renewed vigor.”
