Free event encourages dialogue on political and social division
– Braver Angels will host a free two-hour event titled Polarization is Hurting Us All: Let’s Have a Conversation on Sunday, May 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, located at 1301 Osos Street in San Luis Obispo.
The event will feature a structured group conversation about political and social polarization. Participants will explore the impact of division and discuss approaches to reduce polarization in communities.
According to organizers, “Polarization has become the defining feature of our time, fracturing relationships, communities, and our nation.” The program will include activities designed to help attendees reflect on their own assumptions, listen respectfully to others, identify shared values, and find common ground.
The workshop will also feature Improv for Good, which will participate in the event to “add a bit of constructive fun to the conversations.”
Braver Angels outlined goals for the event, which include helping participants become aware of their own internal biases, engage with different perspectives, suspend judgment, and consider ways to reduce divisive behavior. Organizers stated the conversation is open to “anyone interested in having the conversation and learning how others feel about the polarization we all feel.”
Tickets are free and available through online registration using the promo code BRAVER. Donations beyond the free ticket support Braver Angels, a nonprofit organization. Refunds are available up to seven days before the event.
Attendees do not need to bring printed or virtual tickets.
