Free ceramics demonstration at Art Center Morro Bay
Local business owners will present the demonstration
–The Art Center Morro Bay will be hosting a free ceramics art demonstration led by Shell Voorhees and Aimee Brantley, co-owners of local business The Ugly Mug Ceramics, on Monday, Sept. 13 from 3-5 p.m. for anybody interested in learning more about the art form.
During the demonstration, guests will be taken through the steps that are needed to create a ceramic piece from start to finish. Voorhees and Brantley will create a planter from a clay slab and discuss techniques in hand building as well as cover the stages of drying, firing and glazing a ceramic work.
Voorhees and Brantley hail from Fresno and both worked for Pepsi Bottling Group and have been partners for 13 years. The couple learned pottery and ceramics together at Cuesta College and fell in love with the artform. They later moved to Morro Bay and opened up their store’s doors on Oct. 10 in 2020 and now have plans to expand for workshops and classes by the end of 2021.
