Free art demonstration at Art Center Morro Bay today 

Local artist Sharon Gellerman showcases her technique.

A local artist will demonstrate silk marbling techniques

– The Morro Bay Art Association presents a free art workshop “Dyeing Silk Scarves”, which will be hosted by local artist Sharon Gellerman today from 3-5 p.m. at the Art Center Morro Bay.

Gellerman will demonstrate the techniques she uses to create hand-marbled silk scarves and tallits. Furthermore, she will hold a paid workshop for ten people on Oct. 9 for anybody interested.

Marbled silk scarves are made by layering colorful dyes onto a solution of water and cellulose, which causes the dyes to float about the liquid. Artisans use specially made combs or rakes to transform the mix of colors into unique designs that the fabric absorbs when it’s placed on top of the mixture.
