Firefighting camp for girls gets $5000 grant 

– Camp Cinder has received a $5000 grant from The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County. This grant will be used toward the housing of 18 high school girls participating in Camp Cinder at Cal Poly dormitories. These girls will be introduced to firefighting in hopes that they consider a career in firefighting in the future.Camp Cinder

Camp Cinder was chosen to receive this grant and is among 24 recipients, whose grants total $193,635.

About Camp Cinder

Camp Cinder was established in 2014 by six women firefighters in Cal Fire. Their mission is to introduce young women to the fire service by providing hands-on experience in a positive team-building environment by encouraging and supporting self-confidence and a can-do work ethic. Camp Cinder is four days (June 24-28, 2015) of intensive training and includes mentorship from San Luis Obispo City and County Fire Departments, as well as Cal Fire and California Highway Patrol.
