Firefighters battle blaze at Atascadero home early Saturday
Cause remains under investigation
– Firefighters responded to a structure fire at a single-family home on the 4100 block of San Benito Road in Atascadero early Saturday morning, according to a press release sent by the City of Atascadero Fire Department.
The fire was reported at 3:06 a.m. by the homeowner. Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke escaping from the eaves and gable vents of the single-story home. As crews assessed the situation, a portion of the roof collapsed due to an attic fire. All occupants had evacuated the home safely before firefighters arrived.
The homeowner reportedly opened windows and doors while evacuating to clear smoke, which inadvertently increased oxygen flow to the attic fire, intensifying its spread, according to the press release.
A total of 30 personnel and multiple units. Firefighters brought the fire under control within 58 minutes.
No injuries were reported to civilians or emergency personnel. The fire originated in the living room, and its cause is under investigation.
