Fire scare at school district office evacuates building
Building evacuated when smoke was reported in one of the rooms
On Wednesday afternoon staff the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Office evacuated the building after one of the rooms filled with smoke, according to Paso Robles Fire Department Acting Battalion Chief Randy Harris.
Harris said that the smoke was caused by a blown out electrical ballast, “When the ballasts get old, they begin to emit a white smoke,” he said.
The building was evacuated before the fire department and Calfire responded. The building’s smoke alarm never sounded, according to Harris, but the staff evacuated the building as a precautionary measure.
No structural damage of the office was reported, and the staff were able to return to their work shortly after the evacuation.
