Fire destroys Atascadero home
–An early morning fire destroyed a home and attached buildings located at 7105 Portola Road in Atascadero Tuesday.
Upon arrival, the shed on the property was on fire next to adjacent residences. There was additional debris surrounding the area that contributed to the spread of the fire, according to Atascadero Fire. The conditions were rainy with poor water pressure, heavy fuel present in the area and difficult access to the back of the property. The fire was under control and contained by 6 a.m. Crews have worked to overhaul and mop up the fire.
No one was injured and the residents impacted were moved to a safe location. The cause of the fire and damage to property is under investigation.
Property owner Liza Neville-Olson said that she was away visiting friends and returned around 6:30 a.m. to find the house burned and the fire department on the scene. The house was occupied by tenants who woke neighbors when they were calling for help.
“The house is gone and all of my costumes, my mother’s vintage clothes, and most of my life was burned up,” said Neville-Olson. “I came home to feed my dogs and found the fire department.” Neville-Olson lives in a separate house on the property that did not burn. Among the costumes Neville-Olson lost was the “La Muerte” costume that won second place at the 2015 LosCon Science Fiction Convention.
No additional information about the fire or possible cause is available at this time.
