Finn Hansen to demonstrate leather tooling at Art Center Morro Bay
–Morro Bay Art Association will present a demonstration of Leather Tooling by local craftsman Finn Hansen.
Tooling leather is the process of cutting into the leather to create shapes and designs. Tooled leather items often include purses, belts, saddles, or just about anything made from leather.
A variety of tools are used to achieve different designs on tooled leather, from simple to ornate. Some designs are part of an artistic tradition in many nations. Elaborate stars, flowers, curves, wildlife, and initials are a few of the designs you can make with the leather-tooling process.
Finn Hansen became interested in leather crafting while attending junior high school. Later, while attending Cal Poly, he began to work at a local leather store. Five years later, he bought the store and has provided custom tooling and restorative leather work ever since.
The class is happening Jan. 14, from 3-5 p.m. at the Art Center Morro Bay, 835 Main St. Morro Bay. For more information click www.artcentermorrobay.org or call (805) 772-2504.
