Filling of the Hearst Castle Neptune Pool begins this week
–Sunday, Hearst Castle workers put final touches on statues recently replaced around the Neptune Pool in preparation for refilling the pool with water.
The pool has been empty for several years after the San Simeon Earthquake exacerbated a small leak in the pool in 2003. The $5.5 million dollar renovation project included removing all the white marble, fixing the leak, installing a membrane and then putting new white marble in the pool.
The new marble came from the same company, the Vermont Marble Company, and was extracted from the same quarry as the original.
Filling the pool with 345,000 gallons of water begins this week.
The Hearst Castle is open seven days a week. For more information or to buy tickets, visit their website at HearstCastle.org.
