A giant oak tree fell Sunday evening and crushed parked cars at the downtown City Park. The massive tree once stood on the south side of the park along 11th Street across from Second Press restaurant. It fell down after 6 p.m., landing on four cars. No one was injured.

“A mom and a girl just got out of the way in time,” reports Peter Schroeder III. “They were just getting out of the car and it fell,” he said.

The tree was huge. Probably 3-to-4 feet in diameter, an eye witness reports. Dozens of onlookers gathered and snapped photos of the scene. Paso Robles police and firefighters responded to the scene for safety. 11th Street, between Spring and Pine streets, was closed for hours while crews sawed up the tree.

By Monday morning, the remains of the tree had been removed and all that remained was hole in the turf filled with roots.
