Excessive heat warning in effect for Atascadero
Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with peak temperatures ranging from 95 to 110 degrees
– Atascadero is under an excessive heat warning until 8 p.m. PDT Saturday. The warning includes areas such as Antelope Valley, Eastern Antelope Valley Foothills, San Luis Obispo County interior valleys, San Luis Obispo County Mountains, Santa Lucia Mountains, Santa Ynez Valley, Southern Salinas Valley, and Western Antelope Valley Foothills.
Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with peak temperatures ranging from 95 to 110 degrees, particularly on Friday. Overnight low temperatures will offer little relief from the heat. The risk of dangerous heat illness is high, especially for the very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and people who are active outdoors.
Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, avoid sun exposure, and check on relatives and neighbors. It is crucial not to leave young children or pets unattended in vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures quickly. When outdoors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening, and address symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke promptly.
