– This year, Doors Open California will recognize the centennial anniversary of The Monday Club. The event will take place on Sept. 28-29 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring a tour of notable architectural sites across California, including The Monday Club in San Luis Obispo.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony in partnership with the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce is scheduled at the clubhouse on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m.

On Sunday, Sept. 29, a new educational film titled “The Story of The Monday Club and the Women Who Built It” will premiere at the clubhouse. The film, produced by Emmy Award-winning Robin Smith of Health and Harmony Media, was made possible through partnerships with the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education and Pacific Gas and Electric Co.

Victoria Kastner, a Julia Morgan expert and author of “Julia Morgan: An Intimate Biography of the Trailblazing Architect,” will be present at the screening to lead a discussion about the architect and her connection with the club. The discussion will begin at 2 p.m., followed by the film screening.

Living history docent tours will be available at The Monday Club on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Sunday, Sept. 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tours will start approximately every 30 minutes, offering visitors a glimpse into the 1920s and 1930s while showcasing the club’s architecture, murals, and gardens.

The Monday Club is located at 1815 Monterey St. in San Luis Obispo. More information can be found at https://themondayclubslo.org.

The Monday Club Conservancy is dedicated to preserving and restoring the historic clubhouse and enhancing the educational, social, civic, and cultural quality of the San Luis Obispo community.

Doors Open California is the largest statewide celebration of historic places, offering enthusiasts access to select sites across California over the weekend of Sept. 28-29.
