Elementary students raise funds for burn foundation
–Two Santa Margarita Elementary students, Riley Petrie and Sarafina Treder, together got permission to organize a fundraiser at their school and from that point forward they created posters and took cans to each of the classrooms asking students and staff to bring in spare change to raise money, and kept record of how much money was raised for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation and Santa Margarita Fire Department. The girls set a goal of $200 and raised over $700.
The Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation is a California-based nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing burns and fires and providing services to those who have been affected by a burn injury. AARBF brings together health care providers, firefighters, emergency workers, burn care professionals, burn survivors and others to enhance the quality of life for burn survivors and to make burn injuries a thing of the past. At age eight, Alisa Ann Ruch was fatally injured in a backyard barbecue accident in Southern California. Bravely using their tragedy as a catalyst for change, Alisa Ann’s parents, local firefighters and medical professionals joined together and created the nonprofit with the goal of preventing burn injuries by teaching Stop Drop and Roll.
