Incumbent cites election oversight, public records management, and county service experience

– Elaina Cano has announced her candidacy for reelection as San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters, reaffirming her intention to continue overseeing elections and county record-keeping services.

Cano, the incumbent clerk-recorder, said she remains committed to public service, election integrity, transparent government, and accessible county services.

“Over the past several years, I’ve had the honor of serving the people of San Luis Obispo County as their County Clerk-Recorder,” Cano said. “In this role, I have worked tirelessly to ensure our elections are fair, transparent, and trustworthy, and that the integrity of this office is protected at all times.”

Since taking office, Cano has overseen multiple elections and led continued modernization efforts within the Clerk-Recorder’s Office. Her tenure has included implementing enhanced security measures, expanding public outreach, strengthening election processes, safeguarding public records, and increasing access to county services while maintaining compliance with state and federal law.

“As Clerk-Recorder, I will continue to work hard to protect the integrity of this office against those who seek to undermine or tarnish its reputation,” Cano said. “Public trust in elections and county services is essential, and I take that responsibility seriously every single day.”

Cano has nearly three decades of public service experience. Her background includes serving as city clerk for the Cities of San Luis Obispo and Pismo Beach, elections division manager for Santa Barbara County, and serving as San Luis Obispo County clerk-recorder and registrar of voters since 2021.

“My experience matters,” Cano said. “It allows me to lead this office with confidence, professionalism, and a clear understanding of the legal, operational, and ethical responsibilities entrusted to it. I am proud of the work we’ve done, and I’m committed to continuing that work for the people of San Luis Obispo County.”
